What does cruelty-free mean?

In Peru, the alpaca is a deeply valued animal, most prized for its fleece. Alpacas are never raised for their hides; instead, they live free-range in the Andes, providing fleece throughout their lifetimes. Due to the harsh mountain climate and natural lifespan, hides only come from animals that have passed of natural causes or reached the end of their lives.
